Application
Adaptation Firewire 800/400
The IEEE-1394b/a compact adapter offered here has a 9-pin plug (IEEE-1394b) and a 6-pin socket (IEEE-1394a). It is used to adapt Firewire-800 to Firewire-400. The adapter is ideal, for example, for the Apple MacBook Pro with Firewire-800 interface only. The old 6-pin Firewire 400 cables can thus continue to be used.
With bus power
The adapter routes the power (bus power) so that devices can be used without their own power supply if necessary. For example, a 2.5" or 1.8" Firewire hard disk can be operated without a power supply unit.
400 Mbps
The speed when using a 9/6 adapter depends on that of the slower device. Up to 4.5m cable length the maximum speed is 400 Mbps. The adapter works bidirectionally, so it doesn't matter if you want to connect a Firewire 800 port to a Firewire 400 device, or connect a Firewire 800 device to a Firewire 400 controller.
