In 2012 Switzerland introduced safety plugs which will be compulsory from 2016. It is now required that the L & N pin are partially insulated to protect from electric shocks. The manufacture and import of the non-protected connectors has been banned since 2012. From 01.01.2016 the use of non-protected plugs will be illegal.
The Swiss standard SN SEV 1011:2009 type 12 is rated at 10A. It is similar to the Brazilian type N but is not compatible as the earth pin is set at a different position.
The appliance coupler IEC 60320-C13 is used to connect equipment that doesn't produce excessive heat when in use. The maximum pin temperature should not exceed 70°C and the maximum current is 10A.
